Looking for a free one-way car, a return car or an affordable way to travel between Norwegian cities? Hjemferd lists cars that already need to move from A to B so a driver travelling the same way can request the trip.
A return car is a vehicle that needs to be moved somewhere else. It may be a rental car returned in another city, a company car moving between branches or a privately owned car that needs relocating. When the car must be driven anyway, that need may match a driver’s journey.
Drivers do not pay to use Hjemferd itself. The phrase “free rental car” does not mean every journey expense is always zero. The car provider decides which costs are included, and the listing shows this before you request the trip.
Browse available cars and compare pickup, destination and the pickup window.
Fuel or charging, tolls, ferries, insurance and other terms can vary by vehicle.
Choose your preferred pickup time. The car provider approves or declines the request.
Once approved, both parties receive contact details and can agree the practical arrangements.
Availability changes continuously because it follows where cars actually are. Relocation needs often arise between larger cities, airports and branches, including Oslo and Gardermoen, Bergen and Flesland, Stavanger and Sola, Trondheim, Kristiansand, Tromsø and Bodø.
Oslo–Bergen is a natural route to watch when travelling between eastern and western Norway. See our dedicated route guide if that is the journey you are planning.
A normal rental gives you more freedom to choose vehicle, date and direction. A return car works best when you can be flexible and let the available car and route shape the trip.
Some trips include fuel or charging; others include only what is already in the vehicle at pickup.
Whether tolls and ferries are covered varies and should be shown in the listing or agreement.
Confirm insurance, excess and any provider requirements before pickup.
Want the full explanation before booking? Read the return-car guide. If you know the relocation concept from services such as Transfercar, the basic idea is similar: a car that already needs moving is matched with a driver who wants the route. Hjemferd is built around Norwegian return-car and vehicle-relocation needs. If you need your own vehicle moved, see our car-transport guide or our pages for car providers.
The terms are often used for the same kind of journey: you use a car that needs moving from A to B. Hjemferd is free for drivers, but journey costs may vary.
It varies by listing. Always check what the car provider has marked as included.
You must stay within the vehicle’s availability window. You request a pickup time and the provider must approve it.
Check the available-car page and use route alerts for journeys you care about. New cars are listed continuously.
